SkyModeller is a small package for the display of sky models according to the CIE S 011/E:2003 that defines a set of standard models for estimating the luminance distribution across the sky domes under varying climatic conditions.

Click the button to start SkyModeller (vers 1.2).

The SkyModeller popup should have appeared - it may be hidden behind your browser window, if you cannot see it.

This applet required a JRE 1.4 or later, if it does not popup then you may need to install a new one.  A JRE can be freely downloaded from Sun Microsystems at  http://java.com/en/index.jsp.

Instructions for Use:

Given that there are many possible displays, it is convenient to use a software package to display sky models to match local requirements.

The capabilities of the SkyModeller program include:

• The display of luminance distributions across the sky dome for any specified sun position (altitude and azimuth).
• using grey scale; linear or logarithmic scaling
• using a smooth or contour display
• using a fixed range or automatic scaling for the grey levels.
• The orientation of the luminance images is by default aligned to match photographic images, or an observers view of the sky (i.e. East on the left).  Images can be flipped to be displayed with East on the right.  North is always at the top of the image.  The compass points can be optionally not displayed.
• The display of luminance profiles along
• the solar meridian
• the orthogonal to the solar meridian
• the North-South meridian
• the East-West meridian
• Graphic displays can be printed or saved as jpeg files from the standalone version.
